About Department

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, established in the year 2002, has been a pioneer in providing quality education and fostering cutting-edge research in the field. Initially offering an undergraduate program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with an intake of 60 students, it expanded its offerings in 2012 to include a postgraduate program in Power Systems Engineering with an annual intake of 6 students. The department has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi, across multiple cycles: 2008–12, 2013–15, 2017–20, and 2023–26, which reflects the sustained quality of its programs. With a team of 7 highly qualified and experienced faculty members specializing in domains such as Renewable Energy, Power Systems, and Control & Instrumentation, the department is committed to excellence in teaching and research. The faculty members have been featured in the World's Top 2% Scientists list for the past five consecutive years, a testament to the global impact of their research. They regularly publish research articles in reputed Q1 journals with high impact factors, contributing significantly to the scientific community. The department also holds granted utility and design patents, reflecting its strong focus on innovation and translating research into practical solutions. Recognized as a Centre for Research by Anna University, Chennai, the department actively promotes research in areas including Solar PV, Smart Grid, and Renewable Energy. With two recognized research supervisors currently guiding 14 research scholars, and 22 scholars having already completed their Ph.D., it has made significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge in electrical engineering. The department has state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with modern infrastructure and high-end equipment, facilitating hands-on learning and practical exposure for students. Having secured project grants of Rs. 90 lakhs from esteemed agencies including SERB, DST, IEI, AICTE, MSME, and TNSCST, the department encourages innovation and collaboration in research and development. Emphasizing industry–academia interaction, it facilitates internships, industrial projects, and placement opportunities for students, ensuring their readiness for the professional world. To foster entrepreneurship among students, the department has secured government funding of Rs. 56 lakhs through the MSME Idea Hackathon. Additionally, it organizes various funded events, including guest lectures, workshops, and technical contests, to enhance students' skills and showcase their talents. The department also offers value-added programs in emerging technologies such as AI, ML, ETAP, and PLC Automation in collaboration with industry partners, enhancing students' employability and keeping them abreast of the latest trends in the field. Overall, the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering stands as a beacon of excellence, nurturing future leaders and contributing significantly to the advancement of electrical engineering knowledge and practice.
